UCC Board Approves Naming

Bonnie J. Ford Health, Nursing & Science Center

New building to be named the Bonnie J. Ford Health, Nursing & Science Center.

On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, the Umpqua Community College Board of Trustees unanimously voted to approve the naming of its new building the Bonnie J. Ford Health, Nursing & Science Center. The proposed naming was presented by Dennis O’Neill, Director of the UCC Foundation Board, along with Ronnie Bruce, long-time friend of Bonnie and Foundation Board member.

Bonnie FordBonnie Ford has been a long-time advocate of health services. In the 1970’s, before her marriage to Kenneth Ford, she served as Director of Food Service at Douglas Community Hospital for four years. Earlier in her career, Bonnie held positions as dietitian and food service manager for hospitals in various locations including California, Nevada, and Saudi Arabia.

Bonnie has always been very active in a variety of civic, charitable, and public service organizations. She helped launch the Chamber of Commerce Project Leadership program and received the Chamber’s First Citizen of the Year Award in 1990. She devoted time and support to many organizations whose mission was to help persons in need, including C.A.S.A., Battered Person’s Advocacy, Safe Haven, Confidence Clinic, Salvation Army, and the Phoenix School. She has been a long-serving member of Altrusa and AAUW. During the years 1991-2004, Bonnie served several terms on the Umpqua Community College Foundation Board and participated in the drive to fund and build the Ford Child Enrichment Center. After Kenneth passed away in 1997, Bonnie worked to advance his legacy through her involvement with the Ford Family Foundation Scholarship Programs, regularly attending and speaking at scholarship award events.

Ground-breaking for the new Bonnie J. Ford Health, Nursing, & Science Center is set for 5 p.m. on May 15, 2015 on the UCC Campus.
