Who Can Participate?

We know you want the best for your student. As a parent, you are helping make decisions about their future. Like most parents, you are probably concerned with the rising cost of higher education.
Dual credit allows you son or daughter to earn college credit while attending high school. In fact, while a student is working on their high school diploma, they could also be working on earning an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree or one of many Associate of Science degrees and certificates.
Just imagine your child being able to start college as a sophomore or junior.
That could save you thousands of dollars!
Consider the other reasons for getting a head start on college:
- Your teenager is an official college students with access to the full range of services offered by Umpqua Community College. These include college academic planning services, career services, access to the library, use of the physical fitness facilities, computer labs and academic support services. These services are free for all Academic Partnerships students and can help you plan your education beyond high school.
- Convenience. Courses are taught at the high school campus, at the college or online depending on the arrangements made with your high school.
- Close to home. Helps you to help them transition to college life.
- Low Cost. Taking dual credit courses costs less than regular college courses. While tuition and fess at UCC are a fraction of the cost of four-year institutions, Academic Partnerships programs require only one-time application fee.
- Student Success. Successful completion of college-level courses helps your child be successful later making the transition to a college campus. Hands-on experience in learning the ‘college’ ropes will enable him/her to survive when away at college. He/she will know how to navigate the systems.
All students taking college level courses, must meet certain criteria to be admitted to the college and must comply with all prerequisites for the college courses.
For these reasons and more all students interested in Academic Partnerships programs must check with their high school counselor and the Academic Partnerships Office before registering for any Academic Partnerships courses.
Eligibility Requirements:
Speak with your high school counselor or administrator responsible for the Academic Partnerships Program to determine your eligibility. Verification that the UCC placement test or equivalent assessment e.g., OAKS requirements have been met and the student is eligible to enroll in college courses is the responsibility of the high school.
Students wishing to take advantage of Academic Partnerships program opportunities must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
1. Be classified as a high school junior or senior or at least 16 years of age.
2. Be in good academic standing
3. Not yet graduated from high school
4. Recommended as “college-ready” by your high school counselor and able to benefit from participation in a college-level learning environment.
5. Take applicable UCC placement tests or equivalent assessment e.g., OAKS prior to enrolling.
6. Meet established admissions requirements at Umpqua Community College as well as appropriate prerequisites for any course.
7. Expanded Options Students must complete the Assurances and Authorized Courses forms acquiring the appropriate school and parental signatures.
