Coburg— Umpqua Community College is offering a Beginning Sheep Shearing School March 3-7, at a ranch north of Coburg, Oregon, in Lane County.
The school will provide 40 hours of instruction on sheep Shearing terminology, setup and dismantling, sharpening combs and cutters, operation of shearing equipment, handling of sheep and shearing techniques.
Adults and students 16 years or older may attend. The general public enrollment fee is $200, course number 42983. 4-H and FFA members receive a reduced rate of $150, course number 42982. Pre-registration ends February 26, 2008. Call 440-7744 to register.
Instructor Mike McWilliams has 30 years of shearing experience and has participated in world class shearing competitions. Lister brand electric sheepshearing machines will be provided for class use. The location of the class and lodging options will be sent to students with registration confirmation.
