Tutoring volunteers needed for adult, GED students

Roseburg -- Umpqua Community College’s Adult Basic Skills Department at The Woolley Center, 1634 W. Harvard Avenue, is looking for volunteers to tutor Douglas County residents trying to earn their GED (General Education Development) or high school diploma. Information orientations will be held Thursday, January 22 from 5-6 p.m.; Tuesday, January 27 from 3-4 p.m.; Thursday, January 29 from 5-6 p.m.; and Tuesday, February 3 from 3-4 p.m.; followed by training in February.
Volunteers are needed in Roseburg and the UCC ABSD Outreach sites in Drain, Glendale, Glide, Riddle and Tri city. Volunteers will serve a wide range of adult learners with various skill levels in reading, writing, and math. There are opportunities to serve as a tutor, helping our GED, pre-GED and English as a Second Language students, during a one-on-one tutor session, a group tutor session, or being available for drop-in tutoring. It is a rewarding experience to use the skills and knowledge you have to help others achieve their educational goals.
