For the first time, UCC's Southern Oregon Wine Institute will open for weekly public wine tastings.
Umpqua Community College’s Southern Oregon Wine Institute will open for public wine tastings and sales on Friday and Saturday afternoons beginning in November. The tastings will be held at the institute, which is located in the Danny Lang Teaching, Learning and Event Center on the UCC campus, 1140 Umpqua College Road, Roseburg.
“We’re so excited to make UCC wine available to the community for the first time,” said Chris Lake, director of the Southern Oregon Wine Institute. “Wine is meant for drinking and it’s a great honor to share our wine with the community.”
Tasting hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays through the holidays.
White wines available for tasting include Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Viognier, and the 2011 Riverhawk Rose. Red wines include Pinot Noir and Merlot. There is a $5 fee to sample up to five wines. The tasting fee will be waived with any bottle purchase. Bottles range in price from $11 to $17.
Wines are currently produced by students in UCC’s viticulture and enology programs.
