Legal Assistant Certificate Program at Umpqua Community College

The UCC one-year Legal Assistant Certificate prepares students for entry-level positions. Students take courses that provide them with the basic competencies to begin a career as a legal assistant. The curriculum is designed to allow students the opportunity to begin their job search for an entry level position or continue on with their education for a two year AAS Degree in Paralegal Studies. The first year of the AAS Degree in Paralegal Studies is the same curriculum as the one year Legal Assistant Certificate.
Upon completion students may gain employment in law firms, businesses, insurance companies, financial institutions, public agencies, title companies, or for Federal, State, County, or City government offices.
Employment Outlook
According to the Oregon Department of Labor, the projected growth rate in this industry state wide is expected to exceed 14% over the next year. Students who complete this certificate can earn $12 - $15 per hour.
