CIS Program Industry-Recognized Certification

Many students ask specifically which industry certifications are mapped to UCC Computer Information Systems courses. The list below outlines certifications by vendor and by course.

You must create a profile for yourself as part of the certification exam registration process. You should record your username, password, and site URL so that you can log into the site when you next need to do so. You will most likely create profiles at the CompTIA, Pearson Vue, and Prometric certification exam sites (see below).

Cisco

  • The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is mapped to UCC's CIS 151-154 courses. Students can earn the CCNA by taking two different certification exams, which are proctored by Pearson Vue. The exams cost (approx.) $250 each and are numbered 640-822 and 640-816. The exams are mapped to CIS 151-152 and 153-154 respectively. The CCNA is the most coveted certification globally.

CompTIA

  • The Security+ certification costs $250 and is mapped to CIS 284 – Managing Network Security. This is an important certification that demonstrates knowledge of industry-accepted security knowledge and practices. The test is proctored by Prometric and costs (approx.) $250.
  • CIS 140L maps to the Linux+ certification exam (this is an optional CIS summer course). The test is proctored by Prometric and costs (approx.) $250.

Microsoft

Passing any Microsoft certification earns the student the status of Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). Microsoft tests are proctored by Prometric.

  • CIS 140M maps to the 70-680 certification (either is acceptable). Passing this exam earns the student the Microsoft Certified Technician Specialist designation and is applicable to a desktop operating system. The test is proctored by Prometric and costs (approx.) $150.
  • CIS 240M, & 279M (partially) maps to the 70-410 certification. Passing this exam earns the student the Microsoft Certified Technician Specialist designation and is applicable to the Windows Server 2012 operating system. The test is proctored by Prometric and costs (approx.) $150.
  • CIS 279M (partially), & CIS 288M maps to the 70-411 certification. Passing this exam earns the student the Microsoft Certified Technician Specialist designation and is applicable to the Windows Server 2012 operating system, network infrastructure technologies. The test is proctored by Prometric and costs (approx.) $150.
  • CIS 289M maps to the 70-412 certification. Passing this exam earns the student the Microsoft Certified Technician Specialist designation and is applicable to the Windows Server 2008 operating system, Active Directory technologies. The test is proctored by Prometric and costs (approx.) $150.
