Program Description
Engineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles to make things that benefit people. Essentially everything that people use in a given day was designed or developed by engineers.
Umpqua Community College (UCC) offers an engineering transfer program that closely follows the first two years of study for students transferring to many public and private universities, including Oregon State University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Portland State University, and University of Portland.
Programs offered at OSU include Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing, and Chemical Engineering, as well as BioMedical, Forest, Geological, Mining, Metallurgical, and Nuclear Engineering. PSU and OIT offer programs in Civil and Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering. OIT also offers programs in Geomatics (Surveying) and Renewable Energy.

Why UCC?
The freshman and sophomore years at most universities are designated pre-engineering, with the junior and senior years designated professional engineering. Many of the transfer courses during the first two years of study are math, science and elective courses. Students at UCC can take the core courses required for transfer in smaller class room settings and at lower cost than at four-year institutions. The Associate of Science (AS) degree is awarded to UCC students once all required courses, electives and general education requirements are successfully completed.
Pre-Engineering and Certificates
Students who are not prepared to begin Calculus in their first year of engineering transfer program should consider starting with the Certificate of Completion Program as an Engineering and Drafting Technician. The one-year program can serve as a pre-engineering program for students interested in future transfer. A Drafting Pathways Certificate can also be acquired by completing 16 hours of drafting courses. The Pathways and Completion Certificates provide stand-alone, job-ready skills and provide expanded opportunities for summer internships.
