Civil Engineering and Surveying Technology: Careers

Career Opportunities

Civil Engineering and Surveying Technicians

Civil engineering and surveying are the largest fields of engineering in Oregon and in the nation. Virtually all construction and development projects require the services of civil engineers and surveyors. The AAS program provides a broad-based education, which will provide UCC graduates with multiple career pathways. Employees that are able to work as both an engineering technician and surveying technician are a valuable asset to many employers. In addition, the problem-solving skills developed in the program apply to other branches of engineering, and many UCC graduates are employed in other engineering-related fields.

Average beginning salaries for engineering and surveying technicians are generally in the range of $13.50 to $18.50 per hour, depending on experience and other factors. Job demand for trained workers in this field is related to the amount of construction and development that is occurring in the area. People interested in this career field should be prepared to consider the possibility of relocating to gain initial experience, as these are high demand skills in locations where significant development is occurring.

Additional information on job opportunities for Engineering Technicians and Surveying Technicians can be found on the Oregon Labor Market Information Website.
