Civil Engineering Specialist I
The primary purpose of this position is to; act as an assistant crew leader performing standard, specialized, advanced and technically complex laboratory tests on construction materials and products such as cements and concrete, metals, paints and chemicals, aggregates, soils, bituminous mixtures and petroleum products. Recommend acceptance or rejection for quality of construction materials and conformance to applicable specifications. Provide leadership and offer technical guidance in training lower level technicians and coordinate crew work schedule assignments. Assume Crew Leader role in the absence of the Crew Leader.
This position is the Assistant Crew Leader providing leadership and performing laboratory duties in standard, advanced, specialized, or technically complex physical testing in one or more of the following areas to most effectively meet workload requirements.
Make analysis and evaluation of test data and determination of compliance to specifications. Recommend acceptance or rejection of construction materials. Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers upon request. Facilitate corrections or modification of other lower level technician work. Writes reports and develops or modifies test procedures.
Provide coordination of crew work assignments and work schedules, trains lower level technicians in areas of experience and expertise, monitors work performed by lower level technicians.
Participate in hiring process for lower level technicians. Act as Crew Leader in Crew Leader's absence.
Lead difficult technical support projects as well as special assignments or assistance as directed.

A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Transportation-related Engineering and one year civil engineering or surveying experience;
An Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or Surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group;
Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group;
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
