Guidance & Discipline at the FCEC

Guiding children into appropriate behavior is preferable. Reminding children of appropriate behaviors, supervising carefully, and explaining expectations in a positive way help prevent problems.

Children who are happily engaged in interesting activities do not create many problems. When problems occur, adults quietly and privately reason with the child.

If a child cannot control his or her actions, the child is separated from the situation until he or she is again under control. This time is used by the child to think of how to remain in control of his or her behavior.

A child may not hit, kick, bite, or otherwise hurt another individual. Children will not be allowed to destroy the property of others or the school. A child will not be allowed to engage in behavior that is dangerous to himself or herself or others.

No adult may slap, spank, or belittle any child while in the center.
