Associate in Arts Degree Program (Transfer)

This degree at UCC is designed to prepare students for entry level employment in human services agencies. Human service workers are employed in public and private agencies serving the needs of children, adolescents, families, and adults. Program graduates work in settings addressing people's health, social, recreational, mental health, and safety needs.

Employment Outlook
UCC human services graduates are currently employed at 25 local human services agencies. Many students get jobs before they graduate from the program. Employment opportunities are excellent. Human service work has been identified as the second fastest growing occupation nationwide.

Many UCC students with this degree have gone on to earn bachelors and masters degrees by transferring to four year institutions such as U of O, SOU, Portland State and many other On-line programs such as Western Washington. This transfer option works well for students interested in advanced professional training in the fields of social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, family therapy, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and public health administration.

Graduates of the Human Services program possess the following skills:

• Assess and address needs of individuals, families and groups.
• Develop a plan of action and link people with community resources.
• Foster commitment to the field of human services based on the belief that all humans are capable of growth and have a fundamental right to dignity, respect, and self-determination.
• Expand general knowledge and skills in ways that enrich personal and professional lives.
• Use appropriate library and information resources to research professional issues and support lifelong learning.
• Formulate questions that can be addressed with data and collect, organize and display relevant data to answer them.
