This is a four-year program. Apprentices complete 8000 hours of OJT and 576 hours of related classroom training.

Job Description
Pipefitters work mainly in the manufacturing industry. They lay out, install and maintain piping systems that provide steam heat, power, water, hydraulic pressure, air pressure and oil. They bend, cut, weld and bracket pipes; repair, pack and adjust valves; test installed equipment for leaks and check that systems meet government specifications. 

Working Conditions
The work is done inside manufacturing facilities. Conditions can be noisy, warm or cold to the extreme, and welding fumes and dust may be present. The protective gear worn to protect pipefitters is cumbersome and heavy. 

Average Journeyman Wage

Statewide: $29.08/Hr.       Douglas County: $21.19/Hr.

Eligibility

• Must be 18 years of age
• Completion of 10th grade
• Current employee of an approved training agent

Related Training

Once an applicant has been selected by the employer and is indentured into the apprenticeship program the training begins. After successful completion of training requirements the State of Oregon will issue a Journey-level Pipefitter card.
