The following is a list of the UCC Career Network volunteer and career service opportunities. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, simply indicate your interest when you fill out the UCC Career Network online registration form.

 

Informational Interviews conferenceR


Time Commitment: 30 mins. - 1 hr.

Location: UCC Campus, mentor’s worksite, via telephone or e-mail

An informational interview may be conducted by a student, alumni, or community member with an industry professional in order to obtain information about a job, career, industry, or company. The intent for the student, alumni, or community member is to discover what a professional in a particular job/industry does on a daily basis and how to prepare for that occupation or career path. The information a student, alumni, or community member will receive in an informational interview is invaluable, and will present them with an inside view unmatched by other information sources.

 

 

Career Network Events Career Fair


Time Commitment: 1 - 4 hrs.

Location: UCC Campus

The Advising and Career Service Center will host events for students, alumni, industry partners, and community members for the purpose of networking and sharing information. Events may include, career fairs, dinners and workshops. If you indicate that you are interested in attending and participating in these events, the Career Service Center staff will contact you with more information about each event and how you can volunteer.

 

 

Job Shadow Opportunities Job Shadow


Time Commitment: 2 - 8 hrs.

Location: Mentor’s place of business or worksite

Job shadowing allows a student, alumni, or community member to experience firsthand what it is like in a Career Network mentor’s occupation/company.

 

 

Guest Presentations and Panel DiscussionsGuest Speaker


Time commitment: 30 mins. - 2 hrs.

Location: UCC Campus

A panel of professionals or a single presenter may speak to a group of students, alumni, and community members Topics could include: the speaker’s industry, personal career experiences, job information, further education, personal career paths, job searching, etc.

 

 

Mock InterviewsMock Interview


Time commitment: 30 mins. - 1 hr.

Location: UCC Campus, Mentor’s worksite, or via telephone

Practice interviews help students, alumni, and community members strengthen their skills as they begin to enter the job market. Mock interviews will prepare them for a job interview and provide them with insight for improvement.

 

 

Cooperative Educational Opportunities Cooperative Education


Time Commitment: Varies (Supervision of a student working 33 hours for one college credit spanning a maximum of ten weeks.)

Location: Mentor’s worksite

Local businesses and volunteer organizations may provide students with opportunities to apply their classroom instruction to real life work experience. While serving as a training site, employers have the opportunity to observe UCC students in action. The student’s skill level and fit within the organization may be evaluated, with no long term commitment, when determining future staffing needs. Many organizations decide to hire their CWE student after the experience because they have proven to be a valuable member of the team.
